The Ugly Head of Complacency Epilogue

The Head Chairman of the Council of Watchers unravelled the note that he had received from Rupert Giles and, one by one, took in each Watcher he had called to this meeting. Then he said, "I have called this meeting because it now comes to my attention that we are amidst a serious problem. I have come to this conclusion, because of a letter I received from the Watcher, Rupert Giles...

He then began to read the note aloud:

Dear Richard,

I feel it is my duty to warn you that this note is not of a social content, but holds a severity that I believe you should be made aware of.

As you are aware, I have recently taken in and cared for a Vampire Child that has, quite inexplicably, retained her Soul as the most dominant presence inside of her. And it is because of her, and those that are like her, and were like her, that I write this note, letter, whatever you deem appropriate to call this...

Anyway, proceeding the incident concerning the removal of Oleecia's Soul... That is the Vampire Child's name I'll have you know... I was reliably informed that the Council of Watcher's had already been aware of such cases of the same nature as Oleecia's; that I was informed of a large, guarded room that contained many other Vessels containing many other poor creature's Souls.

So, it must have been a shock to most of the Watcher's there that reside upon the Council, to discover that the Watcher assigned to the Slayer had, quite unintentionally, come across something that they had done their absolute best to hide.

This is what I must inform you of, dear friend, that the Council of Watchers is corrupt, and blind I might also add. Surely they must realise that some form of Evil must always survive, for without that Evil then Good has no basis on which to prosper by.

I would also like to inform you that, now Oleecia has had her Soul restored to her, I have instigated a Permanency Spell; to ensure that it is never removed again. And I shall also add, that should I encounter any others, which have a Soul most dominant in them, then my first call of action will be to instigate the permanency Spell on their Souls.

I trust the information I pass onto you, dear friend, shall be received and acted upon in the best way you could conceive.

When Richard finished reading the letter, he looked up and, again, each in turn, into the eyes of those that he had called present for the meeting. He then said, "Am I to understand that you all now understand the severity of the situation...?"

All nodded as one...

He smiled, as he then asked, "So, are we all in agreement that we now have a rogue Watcher on our hands, and by proxy because of the relationship they share, that we also have a rogue Slayer to contend with...?"

The room boomed, as the collective sound of many "Ayes" resonated and rumbled in the air about them...
